What is a charter school?
A Charter school is a public school of choice which operates independently of local school districts. Charter schools are non-sectarian and must follow rules and regulations governing civil rights, health and safety issues. Charter schools are allotted per-student tax dollars for operating revenue and generate additional funding through private and corporate donations as well as state and federal grants.

Who can attend this school?
Applications are available and are accepted on first-come-first-serve basis; however enrollment is limited in all grade levels. Burnham Wood Charter School will not discriminate on its admission policy on the basis of sex, national origin, ethnicity, religion, disability, academic or athletic ability, or the district the child would otherwise attend in accordance with the Texas Education Code.

Our Mission Statement
The mission of the Burnham Wood Charter School, working in solid partnership with the family and community, is to prepare children to accept responsibility for their own learning. This school offers students a framework that will encourage life-long learning with skills, knowledge, creativity, a sense of self-worth and the ethical values necessary to survive and grow in an ever-changing, diverse, global society. Within this statement are beliefs that will help manifest the "thinking citizen of the future." We believe that (given the opportunity):

Each student has inherent worth. Working cooperatively is essential in our competitive world.
Each child CAN learn. Family involvement is an essential component in the educational process.
Learning is a life-long process. The educational process requires risk-taking.
Children are basically "self-starters" Cultural diversity enhances education.
Success promotes more success. Continuous improvement is possible.
Education is a shared responsibility. A positive, supportive environment is essential to successful learning.
